Do You Need Both Parents’ Signatures for an OCI Application?

Yes, if your child is a minor, then your OCI application needs the signatures of both parents with the thumbprint of the child. I got my daughter's OCI in April in the UK through VFS, so I'm telling this from my experience.

Yes, the OCI application for a minor needs the signatures of both parents. Recently, my relatives applied for a card for their child, and they made the same mistake because the instructions were not clear. It further resulted in a resubmission of the OCI application and a delay in processing time. So, make sure you do not repeat the mistake like them.

When I was applying for my child’s OCI application, I also faced the same issue; unlike you all, I too got confused about whether the application needs both parents' signatures or a single parent's signature is enough. I think it should be clearly mentioned in the OCI guidelines for minors, it will save lots of time and effort for parents who are applying for the card for their minor child.

When I went through the eligibility criteria for a minor child, it took me a few minutes to understand do the application needs the signature of both parents or not. Well, I think it should be mentioned clearly in the OCI guidelines about it to avoid confusion of the applicant.

Yes, both parents need to sign the OCI application if they are applying for a minor child. On Part B of the OCI application, write your name and your wife's name, demonstrating that you both are applying card for your child, and both should sign.

Anyone applying for a minor OCI application should make sure both parents sign the document on Page 2 of part B, even though the document states “parent” and provides space for only one signature. We have made this mistake, so by experience, I am telling you do not forget to do this, or you may face resubmission of your OCI application.

Yes, it is the right thing. I also faced the same situation when applying for my daughter’s and my OCI jointly. They rejected the application after 3 weeks because my husband did not sign the OCI application of our daughter, and sent the complete package back to us. After signing the document, we resubmitted the application, and they have acknowledged and scanned it now. So, do not make the same mistake as we made, and both parents should sign the OCI application of your children.

My husband applied for an OCI card for himself and my son, so he signed the OCI application and mailed it. After 4 weeks, he got an email that both parents needed to sign the minor OCI application section and asked to resubmit that. We timely sent the OCI application; however, it somehow delayed the process. So, if you are applying for your child’s OCI card, my advice is that both parents sign the OCI application. It helps you in getting the card on time without delaying the process.

At the bottom of page 3 of the OCI application, below the declaration section that is signed by the minor, is a section for parents to sign under the heading “Application for Minor Child.” It shows that both parents are aware of the OCI application, and they are giving their complete consent for the OCI card.

For the OCI application of a minor, the requirements can vary by the Indian embassy or consulate where you are applying. Generally, the signature of both parents in the OCI application remains the same in all countries, no matter where you are applying from.

Yes, generally, while filling out the OCI application form for a minor, the signature of both parents is needed, along with the thumb impression of the child. It helps in showing that parents are aware of the OCI application and they are giving consent to apply for the card.

Yes, if you are filling out the OCI application for a minor, it needs the signature of both parents. It shows both parents’ consent and agreement towards the OCI application. Along with the signature, the parent also needs to submit their birth certificate to show their ties with India.

If the OCI applicant is a minor, the signature of both parents on the application form is required. It is stated vaguely somewhere in the OCI guidelines. During my daughter’s OCI application, I also faced the same issue. So, do not get confused and fill out the application accurately.

Let me know if I am doing the correct thing, as I have to do the same thing. The child’s left thumbprint goes in the signature box for point 24, and for part below 24, parents of minors would sign on their behalf. Also, for thumb impression, do I need an ink pad?

My husband and daughter jointly applied for their OCI cards in March 2025. The embassy received the OCI application on time. We received an email from the embassy stating that my daughter's OCI application requires signatures of both parents. We faxed and emailed the application again. By then, my daughter's OCI application was accepted, and within the given processing time, we received her OCI card.
