As far as I know, OCI cardholders are treated similarly to Indian citizens when it comes to taking admission to Indian universities. However, there are some rules that you should consider.

As per my knowledge, when it comes to schooling in India, there is absolutely no difference between an OCI, an NRI, and an Indian citizen. All they require is some documents to prove their DOB identity and other essential credentials.

I heard somewhere that you need a minimum of 4/5 years of schooling experience in India to get the resident India fee for universities; if not, then you will have to pay the NRI fee.

Yes, I got admission last year, and there is no difference; OCIs are treated equally as Indian citizens without any extra fees, and I believe it must be the same for college admission also.

If I complete my 12th grade in the US and hold an OCI card, will I be allowed to apply through the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme for undergraduate programs in India?

This is my advice to every parent who is planning to admit their OCI child to Indian schools or universities: make sure to have all the important documents handy,  including the OCI card and any other required educational certificates.

Having an OCI card is like having a bag full of perks. You get to enjoy employment, financial, airfare, and education benefits.

I suggest that you check the specific institution's website before taking admission to get detailed information, because every university may have its own set of rules and policies regarding OCI admissions.

As per my knowledge, OCI students are allowed to apply for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Indian universities, but they may have to meet specific eligibility criteria set by the university or the particular program they choose.

If my child is born in the USA and later moves to India with OCI, will he be classified as an NRI, and do we have to pay the NRI fees for his education in India? If yes, then do we have facilities to make him an Indian citizen before he turns 18?

As an OCI cardholder, I got admission into an Indian university easily. Firstly, I checked the eligibility criteria for admission and then visited the university's official website to complete the online application. Then, I took the entrance exam, submitted the application, attended a counselling session, and confirmed my admission.

I was born in America, and I was an OCI kid in India. My school life was exactly similar to my Indian classmates. There were no restrictions, and I never faced any problems throughout my academic career, including while writing exams and taking admission.
